Fragile Confidence: Neuroticism as A Predictor of Impostor Syndrome in College Students

Mahasiswa kerap kali dihadapkan oleh tuntutan akademik, persaingan, dan ekspektasi sosial yang tinggi dengan prestasi, sehingga rentan mengalami tekanan psikologis. Dalam situasi tersebut, sebagian mahasiswa merasa bahwa pencapaian yang diraihnya bukan berasal dari kemampuan pribadi, melainkan semata-mata karena keberuntungan atau bantuan orang lain. Mereka takut dianggap tidak kompeten dan merasa tidak pantas akan kesuksesan yang dimiliki. Kondisi ini dikenal sebagai impostor syndrome. Salah satu aspek kepribadian yang diduga berperan dalam kecenderungan tersebut adalah neuroticism, yakni karakteristik individu yang mudah mengalami emosi negatif seperti cemas, ragu, dan tidak percaya diri. Individu dengan tingkat neuroticism yang tinggi diyakini lebih rentan mengalami impostor syndrome. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa di Indonesia dengan rentang usia 19-25 tahun, dengan jumlah subjek 179 orang. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu teknik cluster sampling dengan menggunakan metode one stage cluster sampling. Hasil pada penelitian ini terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara neuroticism dengan impostor syndrome. Hasil uji hipotesis diperoleh koefisien korelasi r = 0,738 dengan signifikan p = 0,000 (p<0.005). Dari hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi neuroticism maka akan semakin tinggi impostor syndrome pada mahasiswa.
